Mexico offers plenty of diverse locations if you are looking for a good Mexican holiday to take you away from it all. But while Mexico has ancient sites to visit and quieter areas to base your holiday in, would a trip to Mexico City be a good idea too?
Our research indicates that it definitely would. In fact you could spend your entire holiday here and never run out of things to do. Whoever you might be travelling to Mexico City with you’ll be able to find lots of places to go and sights to see to share together. One great place to start is Xochimilco. This is a superb place to go, especially as it consists of a whole range of canals that hark back to an ancient lake in the area. Boat rides along the canals are a popular activity for tourists to take part in.
Chapultepec Castle is another must see location. The castle has undergone many renovations and alterations since it was first built, which really makes it even more worth seeing. It has woods surrounding it as well, so you can enjoy some peaceful exploration while you are there.
Mexico City is also spoilt for zoos. There are four near the area and one is in the city itself. It’s called the Chapultepec Zoo, and it has millions of visitors every single year. It is particularly well known for its history of pandas, and many people come to see them throughout the year.
As you can see Mexico City has a very diverse collection of places you can visit and things you can do. It might be a good idea to explore the city virtually online before you plan a visit there. This should give you the time to jot down some ideas for days out and so on, to get you off on the right foot once you get there.
It would be hard to see everything you wanted to see in Mexico City in one visit, unless you were thinking of staying for a couple of weeks. But you’ll certainly have plenty to do and plenty to remember when you get back home.
Unless your foreign language knowledge is very good, you may well be scratching your head at the above information. How can you visit somewhere when you don’t even know what it is?
Well basically speaking this is a theme park in Mexico City, and it packs in an enormous amount of rides. If you are visiting the city you cannot miss out on the experience of going there, as it has lots to show you and provides a full day out experience as well.
The name of the venue is partly due to the fact that it can be found in Chapultepec Park. This is worth seeing in its own right, so you may want to think about spending some time in the rest of the park as well.
But let’s get back to the excitement of the amusement park first of all. The good news is that it has been carefully designed to cater for everyone in the family. There are rides for the young ones, rides for the older teenagers and plenty for the adults to enjoy as well. If you are heading there with children of various ages you’ll have no worries about how they will enjoy the park. It is undoubtedly going to be one of your most memorable days in Mexico City.
As you would expect of any self respecting theme park, you will find plenty of roller coasters here. One of the most famous of them all is the Cascabel coaster. This is a steel coaster, as is another ride at the park, called the Montana Infinitum. The loops on this one are quite spectacular, and it has previously enjoyed a popular home in two other locations around the world.
But this theme park is not just about the roller coasters. Look out for the fire engine that everyone can get in – but be prepared because it doesn’t go forwards or backwards. Instead it goes round in circles – but not in the way you’d expect!
This is just a brief taster of all the rides you will see in the park. Make sure you arrive early to enjoy as many of them as you can.
It doesn’t take a lot to realise that for some people, a holiday is just not a holiday unless there is a beach close by. This is particularly the case if you are after a relaxing holiday filled with little more than the need to lie back and relax on a beach towl, surrounded by azure blue sea and gorgeous scenery in every direction.
Mazunte might just be worth a look if you want this kind of holiday from a trip to Mexico. It can be found down in the southern reaches of the country, and it is a small town so you won’t generally feel overwhelmed by the presence of lots of other people while you are there.
The beach is just over half a mile in length, which should give you lots of opportunities to find a spot that is just right for you. There is a cove there as well, not to mention a rocky outcrop that juts onto the beach partway along. It is quite impressive looking, very welcoming and relaxing as a beach area and it feels good too.
But there is more to Mazunte than just the beach, although people do come here largely to enjoy the sands and the sea and the water sports. The place is also famous for its turtles, and if you are lucky you may see evidence of them coming onto the beach to lay their eggs.
There is a good chance of finding out more about the turtles anyway as Mazunte is home to the National Mexican Turtle Centre. This has been in existence for nearly twenty years and it is well worth a visit. Not only will you see some of the turtles here but you can learn more about their habitat and how they live. It is a fascinating place to visit, especially when you consider the turtle trade here saw the slaughter of many of them years ago. It is heartening to know that they are now protected and seen as a vital and vibrant part of this area of Mexico.
Most locations in the world have a tourist side and a ‘real’ side. The tourist slice of life is the one experienced by people who come for a traditional holiday and then go back home again. The real side of life is experienced by those who actually live there all the time – and by those who visit with a determination to see a different side of life to the regular tourists.
So we arrive then at Batopilas in Chihuahua, a Mexican state. This is a small location and one that isn’t seen by too many tourists, eager as they are to stick with the familiar and most popular side of Mexico. But there are some two thousand people who call Batopilas home, and its position at the foot of a canyon tells us something about how and why it was first formed.
Batopilas was created by miners who were eager to dig out the silver that was hidden in the area. It can be dated back to the 1630s but nowadays life is very different here. Tourism does have a role to play as some of the locals give the tourists who find them an idea of what life would have been like back then – nearly four centuries ago.
Part of the delight of visiting Batopilas is the act of getting there. Since it lies at the bottom of a canyon (part of the well known Copper Canyon) you can expect a hair raising ride to descend the canyon and find the town itself. Once you are there you will be glad you made the effort because it is truly attractive and you will feel as if you have seen something few other tourists will. Batopilas is not on many tourist itineraries after all, and that makes it a must see for those who are interested in the real history of this part of Mexico.
As with all foreign countries you need to be careful here, but a trip to Batopilas is worth the effort if you want to see something different in Mexico, instead of the usual sights and sounds.

Will you hop from place to place and try and see several different cities or locations while you are in Mexico? Or would you rather base yourself in one specific place and visit other locations from there?
Whatever way you decide to go, you might want to find out more about Mazatlan. This city is situated on the western edge of Mexico, giving you easy access to that shoreline and everything that goes on in the area. This is of course the Gold Coast, and it is ideal for every kind of holiday you might have in mind.
There is a lot to do here no matter who you are taking with you. It’s a good place for kids since there is a wonderful beach to explore and play on. Of course if you are visiting Mexico with your partner you will have the joys of wandering along the beach as the sun goes down in the evening to enjoy as well. Perhaps you can follow that up with a meal in a local restaurant too?
Everyone will love the two aquatic parks in Mazatlan, the Mazagua Aquatic Park and the Mazatlan Aquarium as well. There are plenty of activities here as well if you are looking for a sportier kind of holiday. Try hiking around Mazatlan to see more of its sights, and perhaps even take up a game of golf in the club situated right on the coast.
One of the best ways to see Mazatlan is to take a tour. Check out the possibilities both before and after you arrive in the city to see just how good these can be. You will be amazed at the incredible range of opportunities there are to have a sensational time in this Gold Coast location. With the rest of the Gold Coast stretching out on either side, you’re never that far from some great fun elsewhere either.
Acapulco – it’s probably one of the few places the majority of people can actually name in Mexico. If you go there you will know why it is so well known, because it has an incredible amount to offer to everyone who sees it.
One of the most exciting places to go is Acapulco Bay. Many famous people came here during the Fifties and gave it its place on the tourist map, but since then it has continued to grow and attract a wide range of holidaymakers. Many of them are seeking out one of the most famous and best loved beaches in all of Mexico, and they have certainly made the right choice to come here.
The temperatures here reach the low thirties Celcius all year round too, so you will enjoy a beach holiday here no matter what time of the year you go. You can stay in your choice of very traditional and pleasant Mexican hotels and establishments in the area too. When you arrive it will be very easy to see why Acapulco has remained as one of the most popular resorts in Mexico.
Anyone who loves a good beach holiday will feel at home here. The sands are beautiful and the beach is stunning, offering you plenty of room to stretch out, relax and soak up the sun. Acapulco truly is beautiful in every way, and regardless of whether you want a quiet and relaxing holiday or something a bit livelier, you’ll find it here.
The fishing is good here too so if you like trying to catch a fish or two you’ll be in luck. Water sports are also very popular and regardless of whether you like snorkelling, diving or just swimming in the sea, you will be able to try your luck at all three. Acapulco is known for its wonderful waters and sports so you will enjoy leaving the beach every now and then to dip a toe in the water.
In short you cannot fail to have a good time in Acapulco. It may be one of the most famous spots in Mexico, but it has definitely earned this accolade.
Chiapas is a major area worth seeing while you are in Mexico. There is certainly a lot of it so you can happily plan to stay in the area and not run out of things to do.
The area itself is as far south as you can go in Mexico without falling over the edge of the country and into the sea. As such you can expect some superb views no matter where you go, since you will have coastal views in many parts of the region.
One thing you should be aware of is the tropical climate, which could prove to be hot for you if you aren’t used to it. And you’ll want to be prepared to see the whole range of attractions and venues that Chiapas has packed into it. In a sense you could call it greedy because you will be spoilt for choice with the range of places you can see while you are there.
For starters you’ve got the Blue Waterfalls, otherwise known as Cataratas de Agua Azul. The waterfalls are known for their blue colour which is where the name comes from. If you fancy taking a dip in the water underneath the waterfalls you can do so – it’s quite a popular activity to get involved in.
You can also pick up the Gringo Trail in Chiapas. This takes in many of the most popular locations in Mexico, Panama, Guatemala and other locations as well. There’s no need to follow the whole thing if you don’t want to, but it’s certainly worth seeing some of the trail as you make your way around Chiapas.
You also have the chance to see some of Mexico’s best Mayan sites, which offer insight into the history of the country. Palenque is very well known and frequently visited by tourists. You’ll find the actual archaeological site quite close to the city of Palenque itself, so it’s easy enough to get to. Tonina and Yaxchilan are also worth a look if you are interested in the past that is still visible today.
As you can see, Chiapas has plenty of persuasive reasons for becoming the destination for your Mexican holiday.
